Success Stories From Main Street

  Profile: Joshua Feinberg

Joshua Feinberg founded Computer Consulting 101 to help computer consulting business owners sell more services, boost their profits and grow their consulting practices.

While small business computer consultants usually bring excellent technical skills to the table, these same consultants are often uncomfortable with various business challenges such as marketing, sales, customer service, finance, and business agreements.

And that's where Computer Consulting 101's training tools come into play… to help computer consulting business owners build more stable and more profitable companies.

Joshua first started out in the computer reseller business in 1989, but it wasn't until eight years later that he realized that other computer resellers, consultants, and integrators had a burning desire to get access to industry-specific business development training.

Joshua first started training other computer consultants, resellers, and network integrators in 1997 and 1998 as a contributing editor to Selling Windows NT Solutions Magazine, the sister publication of Windows NT Magazine.

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Joshua's columns, the publisher eventually lost interest in running a magazine devoted exclusively to Microsoft Windows computer resellers… but Joshua didn't.

He sensed that there was still a great need to continue providing business-focused how-to columns to small business computer consultants, resellers, and network integrators.

Based on these needs, Joshua was able to convince someone with an even stronger vested interest in seeing Microsoft Windows computer resellers succeed… Microsoft itself.

In 1999 and 2000, the Microsoft Direct Access and Solution Provider teams retained Joshua as a content provider, where he'd ultimately author a series of over 40 bi-weekly columns.

These columns were also translated and localized into 14 different languages for virtually every Microsoft subsidiary around the globe.

Around the same time, Microsoft Press contracted with Joshua to author its first ever Small Business Server book written exclusively around the unique business needs of small business computer consultants, resellers, and network integrators.

However by early 2001, much of the euphoria surrounding the tech boom of the late 1990's was starting to unravel.

And both magazine publishers and even Microsoft started backing off some of their commitments to supporting these kinds of training tools that Joshua was providing for small computer consulting business owners.

In addition, the IT marketplace itself was already undergoing some massive changes, even before the tragic events of 9/11.

Computer consulting business owners, computer resellers, and network integrators were all being forced to cope with rapidly declining profit margins on product sales and reinvent themselves as computer services providers.

And as service providers, these same computer consulting business owners could no longer afford to "bet their companies" on a single vendor's products or platforms.

These computer consulting firms would need to look out first and foremost for their own business interests, rather than strictly being cheerleaders or evangelists for a specific software vendor's platform or operating system.

To address these emerging needs, and to make sure that computer consulting firms weren't cut off from crucial business development training, just because of some whim or corporate "reorg" of a magazine publisher or software vendor, Joshua co-founded Computer Consulting 101 in 2002.

Since then, Joshua's Computer Consulting 101 has provided sales and marketing training to members of the World's largest computer reseller trade group, as well as the World's largest computer services franchise… and the U.S.'s second largest computer retail store franchise company.

Joshua's flagship training toolkit, the Computer Consulting 101 Professional Kit is now, at last count, in use in all 50 states, 8 Canadian Provinces, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and 31 other nations around the globe.

Joshua is extremely passionate about the business development side of small business computer consulting and really enjoys helping other computer consulting business owners improve their businesses.
